Academic Background

Mr. Rosenberg attended the University of Florida in Gainesville Florida (1973 - 1978) and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree in 1978. Mr. Rosenberg's academic course work included both undergraduate and graduate level studies in semiconductor physics, communications theory, and material sciences.

Mr. Rosenberg continued his academic career at the Holland Law Center (1978 - 1980), also located at the University of Florida. While attending law school full time, he worked throughout the school year at a number of part time jobs notably including a position as a legal researcher for the Center for Governmental Responsibility attached to the law school and as an electrical engineer. Mr. Rosenberg also pursued independent studies in Intellectual Property Law and prepared a senior thesis surveying and critiquing the legal basis for the patentability of computer software. Mr. Rosenberg graduated with his Juris Doctorate in 1980.

Technical Background

• Technical Experience:
  Prior to and while attending law school, Mr. Rosenberg worked as an electrical engineer doing harsh environment microcomputer systems design and programming at the Coastal and Oceanographic Engineering Laboratory (COEL) at the University of Florida (1976 - 1979).

  The COEL engineering project was directed to establishing a network of underwater microprocessor based sensor arrays to analyze sea surface conditions associated with hurricanes near the point of landfall. The project involved placement of fully submerged microprocessor systems and seabed based sensor arrays at multiple points along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of Florida. The sea based systems were connected by a sea cable communications link to shore based microprocessor systems. The shore based systems acted as data buffering and public switched access communications links to mini- and mainframe systems located at the University of Florida main campus.

  Mr. Rosenberg was responsible for microprocessor systems development and programming as well as development and programming of backup data recovery microprocessor systems and interfaces and other project support electronics.

• Other Technology and Engineering Related Experience:
  Mr. Rosenberg is the system architect and administrative director of the firm's office automation computer system. Mr. Rosenberg is responsible for moving the firm to a networked, multi-user, multi-processor Unix based computer system employing both XWindows and character based user interfaces.

  Mr. Rosenberg is also a proficient Java, C, SQL, Tk/Tcl, and Shell/Cshell programmer, with substantial understanding and abilities in the C++ and Prolog languages and in various XWindows prototyping environments. He also has a detailed understanding of the Unix kernel and related operating system software.

• Inventions:
  Mr. Rosenberg is a co-inventor of a "Method and Apparatus for Securing Integrated Circuits From Unauthorized Copy and Use," U.S. Patent No. 4,766,516, issued August 23, 1988.

• Prior Experience:
  Before to joining the firm, Mr. Rosenberg worked as a corporate patent attorney (1980 - 1984), serving the Intellectual Property needs of the Malibu Research Laboratories of Hughes Aircraft Company, located in Malibu, California. His duties included extensive patent preparation and prosecution activities, a broad range of Intellectual Property licensing, and oversight review of patent and other intellectual property rights provisions in government contracts.
